From the beginning of humanity this mountain finds itself connected to occult powers and cults. Therefore, we initiate our walk near the Convento de Sta. Cruz dos Capuchos (Monastery of the Holy Cross of Capuchos) subsequently ascending to Tholos do Monge a place of ancient cults.
Folowing our path we find yet another site charged of history and blessed by an astonishing view – Peninha.
Among luxurious woods we reach the northern face of the mountain, close to Colares, and the path that brings us back to the starting point, where a visit to the Monastery of Capuchos awaits.

Description

In a low difficulty walk we find a rich stimulus for our body and our mind.

Leaving from the Monastery of Capuchos we ascend trough a track to Monge. On our way we pass trough the Memorial to the soldiers who lost their lifes during the 1966 fire.

Once at Monge, at 490 meters above sea level, we benefit from a wide view to south. Here we find vestiges of a Tholos dated from the Chalcolithic.

We continue till Peninha, where from the Chapel of Saint Saturnine we can admire the astonishing coastline, from Guincho to Cabo Espichel.

Descending a little and contouring the western face of the mountain, we penetrate trough a luxurious wood where we can feel the invigorating odours of the surrounding flora. Continuing our path we head to the north face of the mountain, that along wide tracks and broad views towards north leads us to Urca valley.

We hike trough the Urca valley, next to Colares, heading back to the Monastery of Capuchos.
