One day, one challenge...the Crossing Serra de Sintra eastward towards the occident. In this trek we will unite two historic marks, the village of Sintra and Cabo da Roca (Roca’s Cape). The path is long but rewarding. A memorable day, filled with small discoveries.

Presentation

One invigorating trek trough the Serra de Sintra, where we’ll admire its history e benefit from the magnificent views of the shoreline , towards south until the Capo Espichel (Espichel’s Cape), and north all the way through Ericeira.

 

Departing from the Sintra village, we we’ll ascend to the Castelo dos Mouros (Moors Castle), stroll in the Parque da Pena (Pena’s Park) and, through dense woods we head in the direction of the western end of the Mount of Sintra, reaching Peninha. Leaving the Mount behind we descend to the shore, bearing Cabo da Roca as our goal.

Meeting point – In front of Palácio da Vila (Sintra), famous by its chimneys.

 

Description

 
Starting from the village of Sintra, we will go by several interesting marks that compose this Mount in the unique place it is, until we meet our destination – Roca’s Cape.
 
After the initial ascension to Castelo dos Mouros, we will enter in Parque da Pena, where we will stroll till the Cruz Alta, the highest summit of the Mount of Sintra.
 
Leaving behind the amazing Parque da Pena, we will wander in the direction of the western end of the mount – Peninha – passing along Tholos do Monge.
 
From Peninha and with our goal in sight, we iniciate our descent till Roca’s Cape, the most western place in Continental Europe, and where we will commemorate the success of our crossing.
 
We will end our day by returning to the village of Sintra by bus, in a picturesque course through Colares, accompanying the recoveres tram line that joins Sintra to Praia das Maçãs (Apples Beach).
